Local Runner Takes on 50 Marathons in 50 Days supporting Catherine House

50 marathons. 50 days. 2,110 kilometres.

That’s how ultra-marathoner Asa is celebrating his 50th birthday. ‘Project 50in50’ is set to kick-off November 23 and will push Asa to the limit until January 11, 2025.

Driven by a desire to give back to the community, Asa is supporting the work of Catherine House, a leading South Australian organisation providing crisis, longer term accommodation and support services for women who are experiencing homelessness.

Inspired by a fellow runner who shared her story of domestic and family violence, Asa participated in the Run Against Violence challenge in both 2023 and 2024. This experience ignited a passion to help others affected by violence.

“Having grown up in a boarding school system where institutional violence was prevalent, I understand the lasting impact it can have,” says Asa. “I’m determined to use this challenge to raise awareness and funds for Catherine House, so they can continue their vital work.”

Despite the gruelling schedule, Asa, a father of two teenagers with a full-time job, plans to maintain his normal routine throughout the 7 weeks. He will run laps of varying distances on different courses, encouraging community participation.
