We’re building a new Catherine House
If you have followed our work, you will likely be aware that we have had a difficult few years with a significant funding loss in 2021, followed by the continued effects of COVID-19 and sadly an ever-increasing demand for our services. It is no doubt that this is closely linked to our national cost of living crisis, the lack of available social and affordable housing and the harsh reality that the number of young girls and women affected by Domestic, family and sexual violence continues to be on the rise. As an organisation dedicated to supporting women across South Australia, we recognised these many factors and set out a new vision for Catherine House. With this, we are now absolutely delighted to share that our dream has indeed become a reality, and we are building a New Generation Catherine House! Together with Housing Choices, financial support from both Federal and State Governments and private borrowings, our new building will commence construction in the first half of 2025 with an anticipated move in date for women at the end of 2026! Over the next 18 months we have committed to raising the shortfall of funds to complete the project. This is approximately $2.5 million dollars. This will be in addition to the funds we must continue to raise to support women in our existing service. We know the task is ambitious, but we will be calling on philanthropic support from the South Australian community through our Build Her Up Campaign. Our new purpose-built accommodation site will include 52 social housing apartments available for 24/7 crisis accommodation, as well as longer-term accommodation services. In addition, we will have an on-site Women’s Respite and Recovery Centre, dedicated to providing education and employment pathways, computer training spaces, meeting rooms, dedicated areas for art and cooking, and a secure outdoor garden. We will continue to update you on our progress but if you would like to find out more or financially support this project, please contact Jaylee Cooper – [email protected] for more information. We hope you will join with us to support the next generation of girls and women who will need our support. |
